Time-Weighted Average (TWA)

A TWA is the average exposure to a hazardous substance over a specified period, usually an 8-hour workday and a 40-hour workweek. The TWA is calculated by measuring the worker’s exposure throughout the shift and averaging it over 8 hours. Exposure levels may fluctuate during the day, but the average must not exceed the PEL-TWA.
