Website Considerations
There are many options for your water or wastewater system when building and maintaining a website.
First, who will build the website? Websites can be built in-house if staff have the skills. There are many companies and individuals that are able to develop websites. Some schools even have communication departments with students looking for projects. When choosing how the website will be built, consider the time constraints for the project and ensure they can be met by the company or person. Review the portfolios and completed projects to ensure their work meets your needs. The cost is a major factor. Establish the budget you have for the project, and then determine if the provider can meet your requirements and budget.
It is also important to determine how the website will be maintained. Will this be done in-house? Are the developers willing to train and work with staff to complete updates? Will the developers complete all updates? Will they be able to update as quickly as needed? Can some updates be done in-house, while more technical updates are done by the developers? What is the cost of these updates?
Once a development strategy is determined, ensure you work with all staff to determine what should be included and the overall look of the website. Work with the developer and use their skills to develop a functional and appealing website!
