Collection Guidelines

Each system should have a sample collection and interpretation protocol. Then, if a sample is taken and the results are abnormal, the analyst can refer to the protocol to determine next steps.

Think safety. For example, if it is necessary to obtain samples from open bodies of water, do not climb over or go beyond guardrails or chains when collecting samples. Instead, use sample poles, ropes, or other equipment to safely collect samples.

Determine the appropriate sample location. For compliance samples, DEP provides sample location guidelines.
