PPE

When using or handling caustic soda, tight-fitting goggles or a sealed face shield should be worn to protect one’s eyes. These should be used if the chemical is dry or liquid.

Nitrile rubber is sufficient to protect skin from exposure. Gloves should be worn at all times while working with caustic soda. Rubber aprons, or other resistant clothing, should be worn to protect from splashing. Chemical-resistant boots or shoe covers should also be worn.

Respiratory protection should be worn at all times. These should be of a nature to protect from dusts, aerosols, and mists. A dust mask is not sufficient. If possible, fume hoods with outside ventilation should be used.
