Eye protection must be worn when working with dry or liquid permanganate. A face shield and safety glasses or goggles are recommended.

A full-face respirator can be used to offer both airway protection and eye protection. A half-mask respirator can also be utilized if it meets the requirements. Respirators should have canisters approved for this chemical. The respirators are to be used in addition to ventilation equipment. SCBA systems can be used if ventilation is not available.

Nitrile rubber is sufficient to protect the skin, and nitrile gloves should be worn. It is recommended that a full body suit be worn for protection from the dust of this chemical.
