The following tools and features can assist and support your learning experience. 

These are general accessibility tools. If they do not meet your needs, please contact LearnH2O staff. We will work with you to identify additional tools or accommodations that support your individual learning needs. 

LearnH2O staff have found the built-in accessibility tools within Google Chrome to be especially effective. However, most modern browsers offer similar features. The instructions below describe how to access these tools in Google Chrome. 

Built-in Tools for Text Pages

These tools can help with viewing, reading, or translating a LearnH2O page.

Most browsers allow users to enlarge webpage content for easier viewing. 

To zoom in or out in Google Chrome: 

  1. Click the three dots in the upper-right corner of the browser window 
  2. Increase or decrease the zoom level as needed 
  3. Locate the “Zoom” option 

Google Chrome also provides automatic webpage translation. 

To translate a webpage: 

  1. Click the three dots in the upper-right corner 
  2. Select “Translate” 
  3. In the translation box that appears, select your preferred language 
  4. You may also choose “Always translate this site” 

Google Chrome includes a built-in Reading Mode that can read webpage text aloud. 

To access Reading Mode: 

  1. Click the three dots in the upper-right corner 
  2. Select “More Tools” 
  3. Choose “Reading Mode” 

Once Reading Mode opens: 

  • Press the play button to have text read aloud 
  • Adjust reading speed as needed 
  • Enable text highlighting while reading 
  • Modify text display settings for easier viewing 

Some learners also find browser extensions such as Read Aloud or Speechify helpful. These tools can be added to most browsers and provide additional text-to-speech functionality. 

Built-in Tools for Audio or Videos

Videos on LearnH2O are hosted on YouTube, which has built-in features for accessibility.  

Captions are automatically generated by YouTube and are typically provided in English. Additional translated caption options may be available through the “Settings” (gear) icon. 

To enable captions: 

  • Press the “C” key on your keyboard while the video is playing, or 
  • Click the “CC” button within the video player 

To access a transcript: 

  1. Click the YouTube logo to open the video on YouTube 
  2. Expand the video description by selecting “More” 
  3. Choose “Show Transcript” if available 

You can adjust video playback speed to improve comprehension. 

To change playback speed: 

  1. Click the “Settings” (gear) icon 
  2. Select “Playback Speed” 
  3. Choose a slower or faster speed as desired 

Videos can be expanded to full-screen mode by selecting the full-screen icon in the video player. 

To exit full-screen mode, press the “Esc” key on your keyboard
