Activated Sludge: Filamentous Organisms (10/10/2025)

Activated Sludge: Filamentous Organisms provides a description of filamentous organisms based on their morphology (structure) and response to differential stains. The class reviews the positive roles performed by filamentous organisms at an acceptable level of growth as well as the negative roles performed by filamentous organisms at an unacceptable level. Growth stimulatory (operational) conditions produced modes of operation and industrial discharges that promote an unacceptable level of filamentous organism growth are identified, and corrective measures for the growth conditions are offered. The growth, problematic conditions and mode of operation for correcting undesired foam-producing filamentous organism is presented.
